Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE)

The Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE), offered by Asian College of Teachers (ACT) in collaboration with Euro American Institute (EAI), Malta, is a postgraduate-level education qualification designed for educators who want to strengthen their pedagogical knowledge and practical teaching capabilities.

The program provides a comprehensive understanding of contemporary teaching and learning, covering educational principles, teaching strategies, advanced pedagogy, digital literacy, behavioral management, inclusive education, curriculum, assessment and evaluation. Learners also explore approaches to supporting students with learning difficulties, ADHD, autism and other special educational needs.

The PGCE program combines academic learning with practical application through Micro Teaching/Teaching Practice, helping learners translate pedagogical knowledge into effective classroom practice. The program carries 30 ECTS and comprises 750 learning hours, structured across three modules covering contemporary teaching, professional education practice and practical teaching application.

The PGCE program aims to:

  • Develop a strong foundation in educational principles, contemporary pedagogy, and effective teaching strategies.
  • Build knowledge of innovative, project-based, learner-centered, and digitally supported approaches to teaching and learning.
  • Develop understanding of classroom and behavioral management, adult learning, and effective facilitation techniques.
  • Strengthen knowledge of curriculum development, educational administration, supervision, and quality enhancement.
  • Develop competence in inclusive education, including approaches for identifying and supporting learners with learning difficulties, ADHD, autism, and other special educational needs.
  • Build understanding of assessment, evaluation, reflective practice, and the continuous improvement of teaching and learning.

Upon successful completion of the PGCE, learners will be able to:

  • Apply educational theories and pedagogical principles to plan and deliver effective, engaging, and learner-centered teaching.
  • Integrate innovative teaching strategies, digital technologies, and project-based methods to enhance learning in diverse educational settings.
  • Manage classroom behavior and facilitate learning effectively, including in adult learning and professional development contexts.
  • Design and implement inclusive teaching practices that respond to diverse learner profiles and support learners with additional and special educational needs.
  • Apply appropriate assessment and evaluation methods to measure learner progress and critically evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning.
  • Demonstrate practical teaching competence through micro-teaching and teaching practice, using reflection to identify areas for professional growth and improvement.

The PGCE course duration is 6 months, providing learners with a structured pathway to develop their pedagogical knowledge, professional understanding, and practical teaching skills. The 6-month duration will also be mentioned on the PGCE certificate issued to the candidate upon successful completion of the program.

  • A Bachelor’s Degree is mandatory for admission to the PGCE program.
  • Applicants should have basic computer and internet navigation skills, as the program involves digital learning materials and online academic participation.

Upon successful completion of the program, learners earn a Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) offered by Asian College of Teachers in collaboration with Euro American Institute, Malta.
